Themes

Recommendations from the Working Groups at AAD WCAR 2002 are compiled in the following reports:

1. Economic and Community Development Working Group Report
2. Gender Working Group Report
3. Globalization Working Group Report
4. Labour Working Group Report
5. Media Working Group Report
6. Reparations Working Group Report
7. Health and Environment Working Group Report
8. Reform of Judicial, Legal and Penal Systems Working Group Report
9. Critical Youth Programs Working Group Report
10. Spirituality, Culture, Art and Religion Working Group Report
11. Education Working Group Report
12. National, Regional and International Oversight Working Group Report

Originally, fourteen (14) Working Group themes were outlined. The proposed ‘Decolonization’ theme was, however, incorporated in the ‘Reparations’ and ‘Globalization’ Working Groups. Also, the proposed ‘Remembering the Maafa’ theme was changed from Working Group to Plenary Presentation. Hence, twelve (12) Working Groups met on a daily basis during the course of the conference to agree on practical recommendations.

Report Format

The Working Groups reported back, using slightly different formats. To synchronize the outcome, the reports are presented along one or more of the following sub-headings; · Introduction: Opening remarks about Working Group and Theme · Overview: Outline of problems, background, context · Priority Areas: Outline of problem areas given specific priority · Current Programs: Outline of programs currently being carried out in the regions · Recommendations: Suggestions for programs and projects · Barriers: Obstacles identified blocking the problem solving process · Strategies: Practical solutions to solving the problems · Way Forward: First steps to be taken in solving the problems
